Are you a Night Owl?

Have you ever wondered why you or someone you know are more active during the night than they are in the daytime?
Well, you need not worry. There are a lot of them, popularly known as Night Owls.

Who are night owls?

Night owl is a term used for people who tend to stay up until late at night, are wakeful at night or the early hours of the morning.

Stay Awake

People who are night owls stay awake past midnight, and in case of extreme night owls - they stay awake until just before or even after dawn.

Energetic in night

Night owls feel most energetic just before bedtime, I.e - After 10 pm.

Running Late

Night owls are often blamed for unpunctuality mostly due to their odd sleep cycle.

Most night owls are creative. Statistics tell us that people in the creative field, for instance, artists, writers, painters, editors, directors, etc are said to be night owls as compared to people with 9-5 jobs.

Unhealthy eaters

Night owls have said to be unhealthy eating habits.

Pros. of being a night owl:

Night owls are likely to be more intelligent

Researches have revealed that night owls are likely to be more intelligent. Their intelligent quotient (IQ) is higher than that of larks, says the University of Madrid. As hollow as this may sound, Nocturnal individuals, are more likely to be intelligent than most individuals, states one study. Whilst another study suggests, “Those with a childhood IQ of less than 75 (‘very dull’) go to bed around 23:40 in early adulthood, whereas those with a childhood IQ of over 125 (‘very bright’) go to bed around 00:29.”

Night owls have better focus

Research has indicated that night owl has the ability to remain focused on tasks at hand longer and better than the early birds! This is so because night owls continue to stay alert even after the day passes.

Night owls are generally more productive

Since night owls need less sleep overall they can perform more tasks than an early to bed person. They also have the advantage of a sudden “burst” of energy once they hit their rhythm later on in the night.

Cons. of being a night owl :

Majority of night owls are said to be heavy smokers

It is one possibility that nicotine, which is a stimulant, tends to keep smokers up at night, according to Dr Ulla Broms. Smoking is injurious to health and should be avoided at all costs.

Night owls are more depressed

Night owls are prone to a host of different t health and mood disorders. Most famous being, depression and obesity. Night owls are also heavy thinkers as they get plenty of time to stay inside their heads and overthink thoughts.

Affects your life and relations

With your highly disturbed sleeping cycle, you might miss that important meeting at 9 am or that breakfast date with your girlfriend. The social life of a night owl is highly disrupted because you would be following an entirely different routine from others.
