You have to score more than 80 percentile in CAT (Common Admission Test) exam. The usual cutoff people suggest revolves around 99 percentile for top IIMs but it is not true, if you are having unique education or career background then you can receive calls from IIMs even at very lower percentile. People with good working history get a stronger chance of being selected. After getting a call from IIM, You have to appear for Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) depends upon individual IIM.

You will get 1 hour for each section to solve. CAT exam takes place is usually on last Sunday of November. You have to graduate to appear for this exam, you can also appear in the last year of your graduation for this exam.
Start preparing for CAT from the month of July, not before that as preparing before that is not very helpful for most of the person, it will lead to a lack of interest in the near period.
